Final Friday

Pace around here is quickening as we try to fit in all the fun we can in the few short days we have left.  I’ll be brief tonight.

Today has been one of the most beautiful all term.  Someone remarked after lunch that if you stand in the shade it almost feels like fall.  Cool mountain breezes and clouds have been mixed with mostly sunshine and mid 80’s.

For breakfast we enjoyed scrambled eggs, grits, toast and jelly, cereal and the ever popular breakfast bar.  The lunch table was loaded with fried catfish, scalloped potatoes, green peas, and cornbread.  A camper favorite, cheesecake for dessert, left us ready for rest hour.

So many final competitions are ongoing in these last few days.  In tennis, the Alpine Open is well underway.  Each class competes in a single elimination tourney.  I believe the winners of each class will get to compete against other winners, in their age group.

In Disc Sports the Alpine Masters has teed off.  It’s a multi round competition culminating in the presentation of the Green jacket at Final Banquet (we really found a green sports coat at a thrift store).  The jacket is worn for pictures and then returned for another year.  We may not have as many azaleas but the competition as almost as intense as the real deal.

Physical training is busy timing mile runs, attempting to find Second Term’s fastest man (at least in the mile).  Mountain Biking competes in the Tour de Alpine, a preset trail course designed to test all they’ve learned.  Up at golf this afternoon boys hit alternating shots to decide who could get it closest to the pin on our golf range.

Not all activities compete - one of my favorite happenings this last rotation is the Earth Games dance offs.  Earth Games comprises silly games and fun.  On this particular day the Earth daddies (counselors) allowed the boys to visit our costume closet.  Decked out in some crazy getups and armed with techno dance music, they were off.  Sneaking up on activities or unsuspecting passersby, they move quietly until the music is turned on.  Then the Earth gamers dance around you until they move onto to their next spot.

Will hope to have one more update sometime over the weekend.  Thanks for reading and enjoy your weekend.  Your boys will be busy having fun on the Mountain!
