Senior Social and Other Happenings

Time flew by pretty quickly yesterday. It flew by so fast that I’m just now able to write yesterday’s blog. Yesterday we had three activity periods in the morning followed by a very welcomed block period in the afternoon.

Block periods are similar to Night Programs because each age group is given a special activity along with some free time. The Hunters and Trappers both got to enjoy some Pool time while the Scouts headed down to the Waterfront. The Warriors and Braves had competitive games of volleyball and Waiter Wars. In Waiter Wars, one teams tries to balance cups of water on a platter as they walk down an aisle to fill their bucket. The catch is, the other team is throwing slaughterballs trying to knock off their cups of water. Whichever team fills up their bucket the fastest wins.

The biggest Block Period of the day went to the Chiefs as they prepared to welcome the Senior campers from Camp DeSoto. The afternoon consisted of groups rotating through several fun and creative activities. Camp Trivia was probably the biggest hit among the campers. The Alpine campers were asked trivia questions to see how much they know about camp life at DeSoto and vice versa. Everyone had fun trading back and forth facts about Earth Games, Huckleberry House, and other important traditions at each camp. In addition to Camp Trivia, the boys and girls of Alpine and DeSoto enjoyed playing Human Bingo, PA games, various yard games, and Balderdash.

After their rotations through the various stations, they enjoyed eating some piping hot pizza from Papa John’s followed by a night of dancing in Deerfoot. All of the classic Alpine/DeSoto Dance songs were played. The girls enjoyed teaching all of their boys some of their many line dances, including dances to Stand, Jai Ho, and the ever-popular Elvira.

While the Chiefs were dancing the night away, the rest of camp was having a blast enjoying their own night activities. The Braves were on the Team Sports field playing Angleball while the Warriors competed in fierce competition of Ultimate Kickball. The Scout and Trapper age groups each had an overnight campout. They enjoyed cooking hotdogs by the fire, roasting marshmallows to make S’mores, and sleeping under the stars. Last, and certainly not least, the Hunters had the Bouldering Barn all to themselves for a little nighttime climbing.

Thanks for reading for now. We’ll try and update again soon about the events of today. Rumor is there is a pretty big night activity planned for tonight. Stay tuned!
