It's Mission Impossible

Tonight’s the night we’ve all been waiting for . . . Mission Impossible!!!

Mission Impossible is what boys look forward to all year. For those of you wondering why we have camoflauge on our packing list, this is why. It’s an all camp game of spotlight, played by cabins. The head counselors serve as Maxes, doling out each cabin’s first assignment and password.

The ultimate goal is to find whatever has been stolen from camp earlier that day. I should mention that the stealing takes place in an elaborate skit at lunch that is almost as anticipated as the game itself. It’s all a surprise so the skit brings elated screams. One year the deed to camp was stolen. One year they “stole” me. I hid out at my house all day until the appointed time, where I was placed in the spot where the cabins who had made the correct moves and gotten the right clues would find me.

Cabins are trying to get clues from the good agents and avoid being spotted by the bad agents. Get caught by a bad agent and the cabin must start over at their Max for a new mission. Eventually we all rejoice as the stolen camp item or person is recovered! By the way, credit to Paul Cagle for bringing this brilliant game to Alpine back in the 1990’s.

So at lunch today, all of a sudden, the sunshine and his band of superheroes (like Batman) enter the dining hall singing and dancing.  Then out of nowhere an evil band of rain drops comes from the back and steals the sun.  Confusion and excitement.  We must get the sun back so we can play at camp.  The Mission Impossible movie track comes on over the loud speakers and the boys go wild.

I’m happy to report that the sun was found and successfully retrieved.  And appropriately so as today and tomorrow’s forecast were for abundant sunshine and 0% chance of rain.  Perfect summer days.

This morning we dined on the much anticipated French toast and bacon, along with fruit, yogurt, and granola cereal.  I’m not telling how many pieces of bacon I had.  Mrs. Gail’s bacon is my favorite.

Tonight, BBQ sandwiches, baked beans, chips, and coleslaw gave us fuel for Mission Impossible.

It’s hard to believe that this term is coming to a close.  Hopefully you received the corrected email today with closing day info.  Gates will open at 7:30 CDT on Thursday morning.  I probably won’t get a chance to post tomorrow - lots to do on the last full day of camp.  Boys will spend a little time packing in the morning and then have final activities of the term in the afternoon.  We’ll close out Junior Camp with an Olympic games on the field tomorrow night, Cherokee vs. Mohawk.  Then we all come together as one in the gym for our Final ceremonies.

Thank  you again for entrusting your boys to our care. Good night and thanks for reading,

Glenn
