Dance, Dance, Dance

To cheers and high fives all around, I announced at lunch today that tonight was the Desoto Dance!  Camp Desoto is our unofficial sister camp about 7 miles down the road, owned and operated by good friends Phil and Marsha Hurt.  For years they have invited our younger boys over for a picnic and square dance.  We gladly reciprocate, hosting the older Camp Desoto girls.

We ended 5th period this afternoon about 15 minutes early for a little extra shower time.  Around 5:30 Hunters, Trappers, and Scouts and their counselors gathered around the flagpole for instructions and to board the buses.  Your boys looked sharp, lots of Under Armour, Polo, and Vineyard Vines to go around.  Boys were full of energy and confidence.  Several boys practiced flexing their muscles, thinking the girls might be impressed.  In my experience, once those younger boys actually see the girls things get a little more quiet.  They’ll have a blast though dancing to traditional line dances and other familiar square dance tunes.

The Warrior, Braves, and Chiefs had a bit more time to prep while waiting to host the older ladies.  They were decked out as well, looking and smelling fresh.  They were playing things a bit more cool pre arrival.  Once the girls arrived, all were treated to a fajita buffet in our dining hall.  Dancing in the gym to tunes like Jai Ho, Elvira, and It’s Raining Men commenced after dinner.  The girls know all the line dance moves to these songs and more.  The boys are happy to be taught by the girls.

All in all, a fun night was had by all.  Many letters will be traded back and forth across the Mountain over the next week!

After a full week of activities and adventure we are looking forward to a Sabbath rest tomorrow.

Thanks for reading and good night for now,

Glenn
