Mission Impossible!!!

Tonight’s the night we’ve all been waiting for . . . Mission Impossible!!!

Mission Impossible is what boys look forward to all year. For those of you wondering why we have camoflauge on our packing list, this is why. It’s an all camp game of spotlight, played by cabins. The head counselors serve as Maxes, doling out each cabin’s first assignment and password.

The ultimate goal is to find whatever has been stolen from camp earlier that day. I should mention that the stealing takes place in an elaborate skit that is almost as anticipated as the game itself. It’s all a surprise so the skit brings elated screams.

Cabins are trying to get clues from the good agents and avoid being spotted by the bad agents. Get caught by a bad agent and the cabin must start over at their Max for a new mission. Eventually we all rejoice as the stolen camp item or person is recovered! By the way, credit to Paul Cagle for bringing this brilliant game to Alpine back in the 1990’s. In fact, I believe this may be the 20th anniversary of Mission Impossible coming to Alpine.

Tonight at dinner we were paid a visit from the Fidget Spinner Club. They held fancy spinners and showed off some spinner moves. “Coincidentally” I was given a fidget spinner as a gift today. I showed off my multi colored spinner at dinner to a lot of tables of boys. My cool factor went way up - they could not believe that even the director used a fidget spinner. Just as I was enjoying some spinning moves at my table the Fidget Spinner Club turned rogue. They stole my spinner!

As they stealthily exited the dining hall, Mission Impossible theme music blared on the speakers. Tables erupted. Our mission was clear - we must get back the stolen fidget spinner!

This morning we enjoyed a special treat - non Sunday pancakes, sausage, along with fruit, yogurt, and granola cereal. A light mist hit the ground as we exited from breakfast, thankfully the last of the rain we’ve had over the last couple days. Amazingly, we’ve only missed one class with yesterday’s rain. Other than that we managed to schedule around it with inside activities and meals. The rest of today was cool and overcast, a lovely Appalachian June day.

Tonight, lasagna, buttered toast, chopped lettuce and sliced tomato salad gave us fuel for Mission Impossible. And I’m happy to report that my new fidget spinner was recovered safe and sound, thanks to the hard work of so many camp agents!

It’s hard to believe that this term is coming to a close. Hopefully you received an email yesterday with info for Thursday, closing day. Gates will open at 7:30 Central and most folks have picked up boys by 10. I probably won’t get a chance to post tomorrow - lots to do on the last full day of camp. Boys will spend a little time packing in the morning and then have final activities of the term in the afternoon. We’ll close out Junior Camp with an Olympic games on the field tomorrow night, Cherokee vs. Mohawk. Then we all come together as one in the gym for our Final ceremonies.

Thank you again for entrusting your boys to our care. Good night and thanks for reading,

Glenn
